3 Things to Think About When Choosing Your Lift Chairs

Posted on: 19 March 2021

Lift chairs provide a big service to those who are less mobile, whether that be due to a medical condition or simply the burden of age. Buying a lift chair is quite a new experience for most people, so often they don't know all the in's and out's of what to look for and what makes a good lift chair. Before you go out and buy the first one you see there are some things that you should think about which could make your purchase all the better and even more long-lasting. Here are three tips and tricks to remember when lift chair shopping.

Medicare Can Help

Depending on your current situation, there is quite a good chance that medicare could help pay for your lift chairs. There are several ways of figuring this out, and the first and easiest is to talk to your local general practitioner (GP) about whether you qualify. Alternatively, you could call a medicare hotline and ask, or you might even be able to ask the actual lift chair retailer to see whether they think you will. Just know that you will likely still have to pay for quite a bit of the lift chair, but it would be nice for some financial assistance nonetheless.

Prepare For the Worst

It is no use getting a lift chair that barely suits your current needs, you should be looking to get one that will be useful for you no matter how bad or stationary you become. If you get lift chairs that you struggle to use now, just think about if something else happens and you become less mobile. Instead, look for lift chairs that have a higher range of motion and that you find to be extremely comfortable when sitting in. If you enjoy it now, chances are you will enjoy it even more in the comfort of your own home!

Determine the Right Height

The only thing that is not adjustable on most lift chairs is the height of the chair off the ground when the chair is in its normal position. Make sure you test out lift chairs at this height because you'll use your future chair for reading, eating and sitting around talking with friends and family. If your legs don't touch the ground or are a little bit uncomfortable in that position then look for lift chairs that have a higher, or lower, resting position so that you can spend most of your time in comfort.
